GCLS Scholarship Information
The goal of the GCLS Scholarship program
is to assist as many individuals as possible who demonstrate a
significant financial need in order to attend the 2008 convention in
Phoenix. The GCLS Board of Directors may, at its discretion, award
full or partial scholarships to applicants.
The funds collected will be disbursed based on applications filed with
the GCLS Executive Director. The privacy of the applicants will be
protected and will be known only to the Executive Director. The
amounts disbursed will be dependent on available funds and the extent
of the need.
For consideration, all questions on the application must be completed.
The identity of applicants will be known only to the GCLS Executive Director.
For the selection process, all identifying information will be removed by the
Executive Director, and a committee of three directors from the GCLS Board will
review blind applications. Scholarships will then be awarded based solely on the
information provided, the level of need indicated by each individual applicant,
and the total scholarship funds available.
Scholarship recipients will not receive 'cash in hand.' Registration,
lodging, and other intangibles will be reserved in the name of the
scholarship recipient. Meal stipends will be distributed upon arrival
at the GCLS Conference.
Scholarship recipients must notify the Executive Director a minimum of
30 days prior to the conference if the recipient will not be able to
attend. Unless due to an unforeseen, documented emergency, failure to
notify of non-attendance within the 30 day requirement will result in
a forfeiture of any monetary stipend, and will further disqualify that
individual from applying for future scholarships.
Collection of Private Data
The collection of personal information is necessary for the GCLS Board
of Directors to carry out its mission of assisting individuals who
apply for scholarships or assistance. The GCLS Board of Directors must
collect, store and manage detailed data on individuals, which is
subject to privacy protection under the Federal Information Security
Management Act. The information collected will not be sold or
otherwise shared with any person or organization outside of the GCLS
Board of Directors.
The Way We Use Your Private and or Identifying Information:
We use non-identifying and aggregate information to compile reports
based on funding provided to applicants. Reports may include
geographic, employment and household information such as number of
residents, and/or other non-identifying information. This information
will in no way include private, personal information that may identify
an individual or household that has applied for funding through the
GCLS Scholarship Fund.
We will not, under any circumstances other than a court order, share
any identifying information with outside parties.
